Here we go with an another update on our line-up. Dominika Owczarzak is the first transfer to Gorzów for the 2020/2021 season! In the previous season she played in Wrocław and scored the average of 8.5 points, 6.4 assists and 2.1 rebounds in Energa Basket Liga Kobiet games.
This 26-year-old player started her sports career in MUKS Poznań club where she also made her debut playing for the Polish top league. Owczarzak, while playing in CCC Polkowice club, won two gold medals in EBLK basketball league (2013, 2019) as well as a silver medal in the Polish league also with the team from Polkowice (2014). Our new point guard has also won a total of three medals in Polish Championships. In the previous season of Energa Basket Liga Kobiet, Owczarzak was appointed as the best Polish point guard. Dominika (with the average of 6.4 assists per game) was also right behind Chloe Wells from Wisła CANPACK Kraków (6.7) in the classification of the best assistant in the league.
“I have been watching Dominika play for a few years. She was making great progress with each season. Unfortunately, she suffered a severe injury which suppressed her development. She needed time to get back in shape again. In the past season, she showed that her game, in a very difficult position as a point guard, is really mature now. She has already mastered deciding on the action of the game at such a level that makes one think realistically about entrusting her with the role of the first point guard of our team. This is the position in the team she will hold in the upcoming season. I believe in Dominika and hence the proposition to play for us. It can be a successful cooperation for years,” said coach Dariusz Maciejewski.
What made Dominika Owczarzak decide to transfer to Gorzów after a successful season in Wrocław?
“I am really looking forward to playing for AZS. I know that this is a strong and well-organized Club that always strives for the highest goals. After talking to coach Maciejewski, I did not hesitate too long,” said Dominika Owczarzak.
What goals does Dominika set for herself in the new season and what does she want to contribute to the game of the team?
“Now it is hard to say how the league will proceed. However, I believe that thanks to hard work and teamwork we will achieve our goal. I would like to organize the game of the team in the best possible way so that each of my teammates could use their greatest potential,” added the new AZS AJP Gorzów basketball player.
